  • That classical Rothenburg view. Wonder if the yellow car belongs to the yellow house 🚘💛
⠀⠀
This trip was impromptu. I booked the lodging minutes before we left the house.
⠀⠀
Jovie and I stayed at the Glocke Hotel on the left for three reasons... One, somebody snagged my first choice seconds before I clicked (it’s an apartment). Bah! Second, it’s on this super cute street and I could leave the kid in the room while I ran outside (in my PJs) to snap a quick photo. Third, it has a private parking garage. Convenience matter when it’s just Jovie and I. She’s very small for a 9-yrs-old, useless in the carrying department, and she hasn’t mastered packing light just yet.

This was 9:30am-ish. At close to noon it still looked like this. A quiet weekend I tell ya!
⠀⠀
The hotel was good. Clean, friendly, with a good restaurant and central. But there’s no tea/coffee making area 😭

Those two towers, both 14th century.
⠀⠀
Have a great week, all!!
  • Rothenburg ob der Tauber, along the Romantische Straße, has a wall, towers and many buildings that were built in the 13th century.
⠀⠀
Remember my story about Lavenham, England? The Suffolk village with wonky buildings and also featured in the last Harry Potter?
⠀⠀
Rothenburg is similar in that once upon a time, like Lavenham, it was very rich. Then in the 17th century two really bad things happened: a siege during the “thirty years’ war” and a bubonic plague outbreak. These two events left the town broke and almost empty and when one is broke, the last thing one do is upgrade the house, right?
⠀⠀
Lack of money made Lavenham and Rothenburg architecture stuck in time.

Back in Rheinland-Pfalz, not far from Deutshe Weinstraße. A lovely weekend away with just Jovie and I. Can’t wait for our next mini weekend getaway!!
  • If you want to visit a very popular tourist destination, go in January. Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of the oldest medieval town of Germany, is very quiet this weekend.
⠀⠀
Still, despite the slowness, pre-book your first choice restaurant on a Saturday night! I just found out that there is a really good Japanese restaurant here - look up Louvre Japan Restaurant in Google Maps. Unfortunately it’s a small one (5-6 tables) and guess everybody knows about it because all tables were booked when Jovie and I stopped by five minutes after opening time 😭😭
⠀⠀
We ended up having pizza and pasta, which was very good! But I really wanted, still want, sushi and ramens.
⠀⠀
Have a great one!
  • I can’t get enough of Belgium. So last weekend all of us spent a couple of nights there, outside of Tongeren, the oldest city in Belgium. I don’t have a lot of photos though. We mostly spent our time chatting, drinking and eating.
⠀⠀
Until I look and see if there is any photo worth sharing, here is Durbuy again, the smallest city in Belgium, one sunny autumn day.
⠀⠀
Happy new week!
  • The scene in this photo made me think of this question: who was the most influential person in your life growing up? One who helped shaped/guide you when you were young?
⠀⠀
My grandpa I feel was most influential.
⠀⠀
He taught me so much and many of why I am the way I am was because of him. Some are my love of reading, my interest in people watching, my financial habits, my preference of quality over quantity, my clean eating lifestyle (although I did have my share of junk food as a teen and I do still love a packet of ramen noodles now and then 😬), and my passion for research.
⠀⠀
It’s been over 10yrs since he’s been gone but I miss him often.
⠀⠀
I just started another German class. I like this teacher better because she teaches in English. I can understand the grammar better than in my immersion class where the teacher was explaining in German. He could have explained it 10x and I still wouldn’t understand 😬🙈 I am determined to learn though!
⠀⠀
Have a great weekend!
  • This was a few February half term ago. Faffing about in Bibury, one of the most charming villages of England.
⠀⠀
I am now trying to figure out where to go this year for our next week long holiday.
⠀⠀
We need to stay in Germany because the girlies will be getting their passport renewed. I love the idea of Bavaria but we haven’t really explored up north. So maybe we’ll do that. Plus I think the girls may enjoy Brother Grimm fairy tale route. The route starts near us, east of Frankfurt, and ends in Hamburg.
⠀⠀
Do you have any fun outings planned for this year? I know one of my “really want to go” this year is Portugal and somewhere in the eastern/southern part of Europe. I haven’t explored much there and there are so many fab countries and areas to visit. ⠀⠀
Sorry for the lack of activity. Real life is a bit busy. I did finish my German class, A1-2. I want to do the next one but I think I should take a break first and review/practice more of what I learned. The A1-3 is quite a bit more challenging and I am not sure if I am ready. While I feel more comfortable listening and comprehending, speaking is still at toddler level 😜 One day!
⠀⠀
Laters! 😘
  • What skill/hobby do you want to be better at or learn?
⠀⠀
Me: calligraphy and font designing.
⠀⠀
Near the Montagne de Bueren in Liege, Belgium, are a few adorable alleyway or impasse. From this angle, this one reminds me of the many London mews. Yes/no?
⠀⠀
There’s the teen doing a #strideby. She thinks she’s more fashionable than me but that top she’s wearing... I have one similar and I bought it first 😜😂 ⠀⠀
Have a great one ❤️❤️
  • Let’s pretend I am still in Mechelen and faffing about at the Saturday market.
⠀⠀
My weather app tricked me. No snow 😩😩 Oh well! Maybe Friday.
⠀⠀
What weather app do you use? I just use the standard iPhone one. Maybe I need to download a new one and compare.
⠀⠀
Have a great rest of the week!
  • I have ❄️❄️ in my weather app for Wednesday. Can I hope for a snow day? 😊
⠀⠀
Mechelen, Belgium, on a somewhat rainy day. This photo is more less hubby and I. Him too cool for an umbrella and me, the slightest drop and ☂️🙈
⠀⠀
That back corner, where the cool looking girl is standing, is an awesome breakfast spot. The teal and yellow is a cosy pub.
⠀⠀
Happy Monday!!
